Jacksonville and the beaches
Jacksonville is also known for his beautiful beaches. The most famous and popular are a little outside of the city. This beaches are Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach and they are each other directly and obtain by beautiful houses, which directly connects to the beaches and give there a additional charm.

What you can do in Jacksonville?
Jacksonville has many attractions. The city is located directly on the Atlantic Ocean and have public beaches who span approximately 20 miles across the Atlatnic coast and are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. There are also some very interesting museums to visit.

Jacksonville and his airports
Jacksonville has total 4 airports and all are operated by the Jacksonville Aviation Authority. The main airport is the Jacksonville International Airport, which is served by any major U.S. airlines. Furthermore, there is still the Craig Municipal Airport, the Cecil Field Airport and Herlong Airport which is served by smaller, mostly commercial or private aircraft.

The history of the city
The area of Jacksonville was settled 6.000 years ago by the Timucua. The largest terrain in the area was Ossachite and was in the center of the present city of Jacksonville today. The first permanent settlement in modern times was the "Cow Ford" who was established in the year 1791. After Florida became the title U.S. territory in the year 1821 the city took its present name. This was for the Governor and later President Andrew Jackson to his honor.
Jacksonville was a important place of the Civil War. Here though no battle was fought but the city was damaged much.
After that the area was a popular winter quarters of the rich and famous. The city was visited in 1886 and 1888 of yellow fever epidemics.
On 3 May 1901 the city was badly damaged by a major fire that broke out in a mattress factory. During the lunch time filler had ignited. In faith with a few buckets of water could be the source of the fire extinguish quickly at first no fire alarm was triggered. The flames spread but from faster than expected. Over the next eight hours they was 2.368 houses destroyed and more than 10.000 people homeless. The disaster is one of the worst in Florida's history.
